Here's a cut and paste from a post I put up over on the Victory board.
***********
Tomorrow's my 2000 C's one-week birthday and she goes in the shop for the 500-mile (well, 600 actually...) oil/filter
change, as well as a couple tweaks. Here are the (minor) problems so far.
1. The cap on the left lower fork peg keeps popping up-- the dealer fixed it the first time, I did the second (using his
own technique- whacking it down with a rubber mallet) but it's popped up yet again. This has gotta be fixed.
2. The bike's obviously running lean. It has the factory slash-cuts and chip. There's some backfiring on throttle-down,
and the resulting blueing of the headers. Also, on chilly mornings (it's been mid-to-late 50's here lately) it won't idle on
start-up, even with full choke-- I've got to goose the throttle for a minute or so before it'll settle in. Hopefully the mixture
can be fattened up a bit on the computer.
Now, the good stuff-- overall, I'm really pleased with the bike. For me, the power, acceleration, handling, and braking
all are crisp, smooth and responsive. Although it's a good, comfortable ride for me (and my SO-- she loves it), on the
road it doesn't feel nearly as big as it is. Yeah, the old-style tranny is clunky-sounding, but it feels solid and "right".
And the motor sounds jes' lovely through the slash-cuts (the most important thing, no?? hee hee... :)
********
So there you have it. I should mention that the header bluing isn't really very noticeable as there are chrome heat shields that cover the pipes almost all the way to the jugs.
As the make is only a couple years old, there's a scarcity of aftermarket stuff as of now; hopefully that'll improve. The bike's in the shop now for the initial oil change as well as to address the minor problems I mentioned above. All in all, it's definitely a keeper, and a lot of bike for the money, compared to a new H/D (scrawny little 88CI motors!!! hee hee...) The current financing/rebate offers on the 2000 models made it a real sweet deal (and I hear that they've made some rather undesirable changes to the 2001 models). Those promotions are good through Halloween.
Next step is to teach my sweetie to drive the Savage (she can't even drive a stick-- uuhhhohhhh...) It's a perfect fit for her, though.
Here's the Victory board URL that Intrudn supplied earlier, in case you're interested in hearing what other Vic owners are saying.
Cheers, and KTRSD,
John
